Per Mertesacker: 'Arsenal are not out yet'

Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker believes that the Gunners can still make the Champions League knockout rounds, despite being six points off second place with two ties left.

Per Mertesacker has insisted that Arsenal can still make the Champions League knockout stages, despite a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

Arsene Wenger's side now find themselves six points behind both Munich and Olympiacos in Group F with two fixtures remaining, but the German centre-half believes that the Gunners can still clinch a top-two spot.

"It is not over. That is how we approach it," Mertesacker told BT Sport following the defeat.

"That was difficult tonight but we will learn from it, as always, and bounce back quickly on Sunday.

"We will need to switch our negative energy and fight back in our next fixture."

Arsenal host Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates in the North London derby on Sunday.
