Burnley sign Johann Berg Gudmundsson on three-year deal

Burnley complete the signing of Johann Berg Gudmundsson from Charlton Athletic on a three-year deal.

Burnley have completed the signing of Johann Berg Gudmundsson from Charlton Athletic for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old winger has signed a three-year deal at the newly-promoted Premier League outfit with the option of a further year, keeping him at Turf Moor until at least 2019.

The Iceland international started every match for his country at Euro 2016 as they reached the quarter-finals of their first ever major tournament, beating England along the way.

"It's fantastic to be here. It's a club that's shown a lot of interest in me and I'm really happy to come and play for Burnley. It was a good season for myself, unfortunately not for Charlton and then we had a good Euros for Iceland," Gudmundsson told the club's official website.

"It feels like a family club and like everyone is tight to each other. The atmosphere around the club is fantastic and playing against the team last season I saw just how good the club was – I definitely wanted to join."

Manager Sean Dyche added: "Johann we feel is a quality player who we saw last season playing at Charlton in a tough time and we liked the quality he showed.

"It helps to see a player in the European Championships with that kind of company and he did well there so it was one we all agreed would be a good acquisition for the club and we look forward to working with him going forward."

Gudmundsson, who becomes Burnley's first signing of the summer, contributed a joint league-high 11 assists in the Championship last season, despite Charlton suffering relegation to League One.
