Marcel Desailly says that Roberto Di Matteo has done enough to deserve a chance as Chelsea's full-time boss.

Former Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly has backed interim boss Roberto Di Matteo to be made the Blues' full time manager.

The 43-year-old believes that the Italian has done enough to warrant the position following yesterday's FA Cup triumph at Wembley.

Desailly said that his former Stamford Bridge teammate has united the dressing room following Andre Villas-Boas's reign and deserves all the credit for Chelsea's subsequent success.

"He has done a fantastic job since he took over, absolutely fantastic," said the Frenchman. "I cannot think of a better person to take the job full-time.

"He has united the squad. You had players who were unhappy, players who were young and players who thought they were second choice. Now they are one – the results will show you that. That is all down to Di Matteo."

Di Matteo's previous managerial experiences came with West Bromwich Albion and MK Dons.
