Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo praises Eden Hazard for his performance against Wigan Athletic.

Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has praised winger Eden Hazard for his performance in their 2-0 victory over Wigan Athletic on Sunday.

Hazard provided the assist for Branislav Ivanovic's second-minute opener and earned the penalty that Frank Lampard successfully converted five minutes later.

"He showed all his quality today," the Italian is quoted as saying by Chelsea's official website. "He was outstanding and combined well with his teammates.

"He was a threat and exactly what we were looking for. He has great technical ability, a turn of pace.

"He can play with his back to goal and has a lot of characteristics he can bring to our team."

Chelsea are back in the Premier League action on Wednesday when they host Reading at Stamford Bridge.
