Preview: Cheltenham Town vs. Charlton Athletic - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League One clash between Cheltenham Town and Charlton Athletic, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Cheltenham Town will attempt to end their three-game winless run when they face Charlton Athletic at the Completely-Suzuki Stadium on Tuesday.

The Robins are currently languishing in the League One relegation zone, while the Addicks are four points better off in 18th position.

After enjoying a run of three consecutive victories, Cheltenham's survival bid has lost momentum with just two points coming from their last three matches.

The Robins played out a 1-1 draw with Wigan Athletic, before they fell to a 2-0 defeat in their away meeting with Wycombe Wanderers.

Darrell Clarke's side could not return to winning ways on Saturday, as they played out a goalless draw with Burton Albion to leave them four points adrift of safety with 12 matches left to play.

Cheltenham will at least fancy their chances of taking a point from Tuesday's contest after avoiding defeat in six of their last seven matches.

The Robins have also never lost a competitive home game against the Addicks, having won one and drawn two of their three head-to-head home matches.

Charlton boss Nathan Jones has made his side a tough team to beat since losing 2-0 to Reading in his first game in charge.

The Addicks have gone on to put together a five-game unbeaten run, which began with three consecutive draws before they beat Derby County 1-0 last Tuesday.

They ultimately missed the chance to claim a second straight victory at the weekend, as they gave up a slender lead to draw 1-1 with Northampton Town.

With Charlton sitting four points clear of the drop zone, they will have the chance to extend that gap in a third consecutive away game.

They also have the opportunity to complete a league double over the Robins after two Alfie May penalties guided them to a 2-1 victory in November's reverse fixture.

Team News

Cheltenham remain without the services of striker Rob Street, who is set to miss the rest of the season after sustaining a knee injury against Derby County at the end of January.

Elliot Bonds could return to the Cheltenham midfield after he dropped down to the bench for Saturday's goalless draw with Burton.

Matty Taylor will offer one of the home side's main goal threats, having scored four times in seven appearances since arriving from Forest Green Rovers in January.

As for the visitors, they remain without the services of full-back Kayne Ramsay and striker Miles Leaburn due to hamstring injuries.

Lloyd Jones is available following a two-match suspension, and the defender could be brought into the side to feature in a back three alongside Rarmani Edmonds-Green and Terell Thomas.

Forward Freddie Ladapo dropped down to the bench at the weekend, but the forward is in contention to return to the lineup for Tuesday's contest.

Cheltenham Town possible starting lineup:
Southwood; Smith, Davies, Bradbury; Long, Bonds, Pett, Kinsella, Ferry; Taylor, Lloyd

Charlton Athletic possible starting lineup:
Isted; Edmonds-Green, Thomas, Gillesphey; Watson, Dobson, Coventry, Anderson, Small; May, Ladapo

We say: Cheltenham Town 1-1 Charlton Athletic

Cheltenham will be desperate to end their three-game winless run, but we think that they will have to settle for a point against a Charlton side that has drawn just four of their last five matches.
