England's Wayne Rooney 'stays behind for extra training'

England star Wayne Rooney reportedly stays behind after training to take on extra shooting practice ahead of Thursday's clash against Uruguay.

Wayne Rooney has reportedly shown his desire to perform well for his country by staying behind after training in Brazil to take on extra drills ahead of England's Group D clash against Uruguay on Thursday.

The Manchester United forward was criticised after Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Italy, despite setting up Daniel Sturridge's goal in Manaus.

Rooney's performance has sparked a debate on whether the forward should be an automatic starter for manager Roy Hodgson at the World Cup, with various figures within the game suggesting that the 28-year-old should start centrally, or be dropped.

According to the Daily Mail, Rooney stayed behind at England's training base in Urca on Monday to put in some extra shooting practice.

The forward, who has never scored at a World Cup, has himself admitted that his place in the Three Lions team is not guaranteed.

Meanwhile, Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has confirmed that he is 100% fit for the game against England after missing his nation's 3-1 defeat to Costa Rica on Saturday following knee surgery.
