Neil Redfearn: 'I need financial backing'

Neil Redfearn says that he will seek assurances over Leeds United's transfer policy for the summer if he remains as head coach of the Championship club.

Leeds United head coach Neil Redfearn has stated that he will seek assurances about the club's plans for the summer transfer market if he is to remain in charge.

The 49-year-old is three games away from the end of his deal at Elland Road, and it is expected that the Yorkshire outfit will clarify his future before their final match of the Championship season against Rotherham United on May 2.

Redfearn has guided United out of relegation trouble during the second half of this term, but he believes that he will need to be backed in the summer transfer window by owner Massimo Cellino if the Whites are to challenge at the top end of the table next year.

"I've got to sit down and talk with the owner and for me, certain things have to be right as well," Redfearn told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"Obviously they've got to decide if they want me but there are certain things I'd want in place too because next season we'll expect to challenge.

"If we expect to challenge then we've got to bring in the players who can help us challenge. All sorts of things have got to come to the fore."

Leeds are said to have an option to extend Redfearn's contract by a further 12 months.
