Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has been sent home from the England Under-21s camp after returning a positive COVID-19 test.

The 19-year-old made his debut for the Young Lions earlier this year - playing the full 90 minutes of a European Championships Qualifying victory over Andorra on March 25.

Lee Carsley's side will continue their qualification bid against the Czech Republic on Friday evening, and further fixtures with Albania, Kosovo and Slovenia await before the end of the month.

However, The Athletic reports that Elliott has been sent home after contracting coronavirus and will miss tomorrow's fixture, but he has not pulled out of the squad entirely.

Elliott could potentially return to face Albania, Kosovo and Slovenia providing he returns a negative test in time, but Carsley has already seen Tottenham Hotspur's Ryan Sessegnon withdraw injured.

Elliott ended the 2021-22 season with one goal from 11 appearances in all competitions - missing a total of 30 games following his dislocated ankle and subsequent surgery.
