Preview: Maidenhead United vs. Eastleigh - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's National League clash between Maidenhead United and Eastleigh, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Matchday 20 of the 2022-23 National League campaign sees Maidenhead United entertain the challenge of Eastleigh at York Road on Saturday afternoon.

Off the back of highly contrasting results in their most recent outings, the teams will be looking to serve up a proper contest in this one as the season approaches its midway point.

Maidenhead United picked up a first victory away from home since October on Saturday when they narrowly defeated Aldershot 2-1 at the Recreation Ground.

Alan Devonshire's men raced to a two-goal lead inside the opening 20 minutes thanks to strikes from Remy Clerima and Will De Havilland before Inih Effiong pulled one back in the second half.

As a result, the Magpies have moved up to 13th place in the National League table and are currently outside the top half only on goal difference.

Coming up next is the task of facing off against an opposing outfit with little to choose between the sides in recent meetings as the last 10 encounters have yielded four wins apiece and two draws.

Having scored the joint second-fewest number of goals on home turf in the division, Saturday's hosts will be looking to turn their fortunes around at the top end of the pitch.

Eastleigh were unable to make it six straight home wins across all competitions thanks to a 2-0 defeat against Notts County at the Silverlake Stadium on Saturday.

Off the back of a relatively uneventful first half, second-half goals from Adam Chicksen and Ruben Rodrigues put Lee Bradbury's men to the sword in Hampshire.

The Spitfires have now dropped down to ninth place in the league standings, two points behind Barnet in the race for the final playoff spot.

With just one victory in their last 10 games on the road, Saturday's visitors have it all to do once again away from home, where they will be aiming to avoid a fourth loss in a row.

Team News

Maidenhead's Will De Havilland found the back of the net on his return to action last time out and is expected to retain his place in the side.

Twenty-seven-year-old Charlee Adams will be looking to deliver the goods for the home side here having found the back of the net in the last edition of this fixture.

Brennan Camp received his fifth yellow card of the season for Eastleigh against Notts County, and the Scot will serve a one-game suspension this weekend.

Defender John Oyenuga is the favourite to replace Camp in the visitors' lineup for what would be only a fourth starting appearance this term.

Maidenhead United possible starting lineup:
Gyollai; Beckwith, Massey, De Havilland, Asare; Nathaniel-George; Smith, Ferdinand, Adams, Clerima; Acquah

Eastleigh possible starting lineup:
McDonnell; Oyenuga, Rutherford, Langston, Harper; McKiernan, Martin, Cisse, Carter; Abrahams, Hill

We say: Maidenhead United 1-1 Eastleigh

The teams have blown hot and cold so far this season and have not managed to hit a high level of consistency. We expect a close game in this one and with the sides settling for a point apiece come the sound of the final whistle.
