Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Manchester City could line up for Saturday's Premier League clash with Luton Town.

Manchester City are set to make a late call on the fitness of Phil Foden ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash with Luton Town at the Etihad Stadium.

After scoring a stunner in the Citizens' thrilling 3-3 draw with Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday, Foden hobbled off in the closing stages with a knock to his leg, but the attacker is hopeful that he will make a swift return.

Kevin De Bruyne could also feature on Saturday after illness prevented him from playing against Real Madrid, but both Kyle Walker (hamstring) and Nathan Ake (calf) remain in the treatment room, at the time of writing.

Pep Guardiola will ponder whether to start Stefan Ortega for a fourth successive game between the sticks or recall first-choice goalkeeper Ederson, who has watched on as an unused substitute in City's last two fixtures since recovering from a muscle injury.

Josko Gvardiol managed to shake off a "niggle" to score his first City goal and play the full 90 minutes in midweek, but his fitness is set to be managed this weekend, and the same can be said for John Stones, so a start against Luton is seemingly not a given. Sergio Gomez could be in contention for a rare start at the expense of Gvardiol at left-back.

Rodri admitted earlier this week that he "needs a rest" and City have plans to give the midfielder a well-earned break, which could be taken against Luton with one eye on next week's second leg against Real Madrid. Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes, Bernardo Silva and Rico Lewis are among those who could play in a deep-lying midfield role if Guardiola does indeed opt to rest the Spaniard.

Jeremy Doku and Julian Alvarez will both be pushing for a recall after beginning on the substitutes' bench in midweek, and the latter could be selected to start as a central striker if Guardiola decides to manage the minutes of Erling Haaland, who scored five goals in a 6-2 FA Cup win at Luton in February.

Man City possible starting lineup: Ortega; Akanji, Dias, Gvardiol; Lewis, Kovacic; Doku, De Bruyne, Nunes, Grealish; Haaland
