Manchester City's Manuel Pellegrini escapes FA action over Clattenburg comments

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini escapes action from the Football Association for his remarks about referee Mark Clattenburg.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini will not be punished by the Football Association over his comments about referee Mark Clattenburg.

The Chilean questioned the match official's decision to give Tottenham Hotspur a penalty when the ball struck Raheem Sterling's arm in the box on Sunday.

Harry Kane converted from the spot and Spurs went on to win 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium, denting City's hopes of winning the Premier League title.

After the game, Pellegrini told reporters: "More important than my view of the penalty is that everyone saw what happened.

"Unfortunately for us it was the same referee, Clattenburg, as when we lost against Tottenham in the first round with two clear goals offside. It was a penalty that was decisive for the game. I have nothing more to say."

According to Sky Sports News, the English governing body has opted against charging Pellegrini for his remarks.

City are currently fourth in the league table, six points adrift of leaders Leicester City.
