Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim says that Mason Mount is facing "several weeks" on the sidelines with the injury that he suffered against Manchester City.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has said that Mason Mount is facing "several weeks" on the sidelines with the injury that he suffered during the Manchester derby last weekend.

Mount had to be substituted in the early stages of what proved to be a 2-1 win for Man United, and the England international was visibility upset when he left the field at the Etihad Stadium.

After the match, Amorim admitted that Mount was "very sad", with the playmaker dealing with a number of injury problems since his arrival at Old Trafford from Chelsea in the summer of 2023.

The 25-year-old was absent against Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup on Thursday night, and it has now been revealed that Mount is facing "several weeks" out of action.

"Several weeks. I don't know the exact date, but it's going to be for long. And that's it, it's part of football and you continue," Amorim told reporters ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash with Bournemouth.

Amorim confirms Mount injury blow

When asked about the injury situation at the club, Amorim said: "That is not my department. What I can do is to help Mase, to teach him how to play our game when he's recovering. To try to use that time for him to think about different things. I think the worst part is that we don't have time to train like we should do, when you are recovering from a lot of injuries.

"With Mason Mount, we are going to help him. It is really hard for a player to be out for so long and is trying really hard, the same for me. If they try really hard, we will help them until the end."

Mount has been restricted to just 32 appearances for Man United due to his injury problems, scoring once and providing one assist, and he will now not be back on the field until 2025.

Man United have recovered a number of players from injury problems recently, but Luke Shaw is again absent due to a hamstring problem, while Victor Lindelof picked up a problem against Spurs on Thursday night.

It is clear that Amorim is unwilling to give up on Mount, with the Portuguese revealing upon his arrival at Old Trafford that he viewed the Englishman as a key part of his plans moving forward.

"Mason Mount... I have to tell you I love that kid," Amorim said last month. "You can look in his eyes that he wants this so bad. And this is the most important thing for me.

"I know he was suffering from injuries, he was not on the pitch, but now he's trying to stay fit and we hope he can continue to be fit, to show all the talent that he's shown, for example, in Chelsea."

Mount scored 33 goals and registered 35 assists in 195 appearances for Chelsea, winning the Champions League in the process, but it remains to be seen whether he can carve out a successful career with the 20-time English champions.
