Ex-Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson: 'I was a ruthless manager'

Sir Alex Ferguson insists that he was "ruthless" during his time as Manchester United manager.

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has insisted that his success at Old Trafford was down to his "ruthless" nature.

The Scotsman retired from management last year following a glittering 27-year tenure with the Red Devils.

The 72-year-old was replaced with David Moyes, but the ex-Everton boss lasted less than 10 months in charge of the former Premier League champions .

"I was paid to keep winning, that was my job, so I was ruthless. I'm not going to deny that," Ferguson told delegates at EY World Entrepreneur of the Year awards yesterday, according to The Express.

"You have to have a strong personality when you're leading people, and I've got a pretty strong personality."

Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal will take on the Old Trafford managerial role after the World Cup in Brazil.
