Jamaica reportedly want England and Manchester United winger Mason Greenwood to switch his international allegiance, as the Caribbean island aim for the 2022 World Cup.

Jamaica have reportedly set their sights on persuading England and Manchester United youngster Mason Greenwood to switch his international allegiance.

The Caribbean island country's plan, that was revealed earlier this year, outlined that they wanted to call up 15 English players in their bid to qualify for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Jamaica have already been successful in swooping West Ham United's Michail Antonio, who has received two England call-ups but never featured for the Three Lions.

The Daily Mail now reports that Jamaica want to secure Greenwood as one of their own, as he could make the international switch due to his parents' allegiances.

The 19-year-old has not played for Gareth Southgate's side since his senior debut against Iceland in September, when he was sent home from the camp, along with Phil Foden, for breaking COVID-19 restrictions.

Greenwood was not able to put himself in the frame for this summer's Euros as he has been suffering with an injury since Man United's Europa League defeat at the end of May.

Jamaica's pursuit of England-born players is reminiscent of their 1998 World Cup squad which included Frank Sinclair, Robbie Earle and Marcus Gayle.
