Sir Alex Ferguson makes Robin van Persie plea to Arsene Wenger?

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly makes a personal plea to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger in an attempt to push through a move for Robin van Persie.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly contacted Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger directly in an attempt to push through a move for Robin van Persie.

Ferguson confirmed last week that he had lodged a bid for the 29-year-old forward, however the Red Devils have been frustrated in their pursuit thus far.

According to The Mirror, the Scot is planning to make another £20m-plus offer within 48 hours and he is hopeful that the personal touch will help him complete the deal before the Premier League season kicks off on Saturday.

Van Persie, whose current contract is due to expire in less than 12 months, was booed as he appeared as a second-half substitute in the Gunners' 4-0 friendly win over FC Koln on Sunday.
