Roberto Martinez: 'Everton need strong finish to boost transfer spending'

Roberto Martinez urges Everton to finish the Premier League campaign strongly to boost their transfer budget for next season.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has suggested that a strong finish to the current campaign will help the club as they plan for next season.

The Blues have struggled in the Premier League for large parts of the season, but have moved up to 12th place after a recent resurgence.

However, with prize money to play for, Martinez is keen to finish as high as possible in the table to boost the summer transfer kitty and is eyeing a victory over Manchester United to help their cause.

He is quoted by The Express as saying: "Finishing the season strong is very important and finishing one position above really matters to us.

"It could be crucial to what we do in the summer, so we have to finish the season really strong to get as high as we can.

"Sunday's about more than just three points. It will be a sell-out crowd again, the more points we can get can change many things going forward. It's the type of game we need."

Everton missed out a Champions League place last season, finishing seven points behind fourth-placed Arsenal.
