Mourinho: 'Alexis Sanchez not leaving'

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho plays down suggestions that Alexis Sanchez could leave the club in January 2019.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is confident that Alexis Sanchez will still be at Old Trafford beyond the end of the 2019 January transfer window.

Sanchez joined United from Arsenal at the start of this year off the back of scoring 80 times in 166 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions.

The Chile international has only managed four goals in 29 games for the Red Devils, however, and has recently been linked with a move away from the club.

Despite starting fewer than half of United's Premier League matches this season, Sanchez has never expressed a desire to leave the 20-time English champions, according to Mourinho.

"I don't think so because he has never told me that he wants to leave. He never told me that he's not happy to stay. He is playing like the team. He is improving, like the team is improving, when he plays he is giving us his personality," Mourinho told reporters.

"His desire is to play and to produce for the team and [he is] trying to adapt to the way we play and vice versa. Can he do better? We all can do better. I can do better, he can do better, all the players can do better."

The 29-year-old has scored once and provided two assists in nine Premier League appearances this season.
