Louis van Gaal: 'Robin van Persie will be 100% in time for World Cup'

Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal insists that Robin van Persie will be back to full fitness in time for the start of the World Cup this summer.

Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal has insisted that Robin van Persie will be "100%" fit by the time the World Cup begins.

Van Persie suffered an injury-hit domestic campaign for Manchester United, including missing six weeks with a knee injury towards the end of the season.

However, the 30-year-old has scored against both Ecuador and Ghana in World Cup warm-up matches for Holland, and Van Gaal is confident that he will be at his best in time for his side's opening group game against Spain on June 13.

"He is not 100%, but we have two weeks to go. I think he will be 100%. He is coming out of injury but we built him already up in our federation, our medical department," Van Gaal is quoted as saying by PA.

"It was under the permission of David Moyes. So we could control him, he has worked very hard. Then he played two matches of 20 or 30 minutes and the last match 70 minutes. We did not expect that as the injury was bad."

Van Persie, who will link up with Van Gaal at United next season, is Holland's highest-ever goalscorer having netted 43 times in 84 matches.
