Preston North End confirm NCA contact in relation to corruption investigation

Preston North End confirm that they have been contacted by the National Crime Agency in relation to alleged widespread corruption in football.

Preston North End have confirmed that the National Crime Agency have contacted the League One club in relation to a widespread investigation into suspected corruption.

The authorities announced on Thursday that seven footballers from Football League clubs based in the North-West of England had been arrested by police.

A further six people were also rearrested in connection to alleged bribery and money laundering.

Preston released a statement saying: "In response to media enquiries received, Preston North End Football Club can confirm that today, April 3, 2014, the club has been contacted by the National Crime Agency in relation to a wide ranging investigation into 'spot-fixing' in football.

"There are no suggestions that any offences that might have occurred involved match fixing.

"None of our employees have been charged with any offence at this time and until or unless this position changes we will be taking no further action nor making any further comment. All of our contracted employees are available for selection by the manager."

The NCA have claimed that all of the men arrested, who are aged between 18 and 30, are being questioned by police up and down the country.
