The hosts went ahead with three minutes on the clock as Alvaro Morata fired into the bottom corner.

It was 2-0 soon after when Sergio Ramos headed in powerfully from Mesut Ozil's free kick.

However, Ramos was sent off before the break after picking up two yellow cards in under a minute.

The defender received his first for a mistimed challenge before he was dismissed following a deliberate handball.

Leo Baptistao dragged his effort wide early in what was a quiet second half as the visitors enjoyed a spell of possession.

They came within inches of cutting the deficit in the 81st minute, but Alex Galvez's shot came back off the foot of the post.
