Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has declared that he would gladly swap the club's fourth-placed finish in the Premier League to win silverware for the first time since 2005.
The Gunners secured the chance to qualify for next season's Champions League by edging local rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the race for a top-four finish last weekend.
Wright has insisted that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger should place more emphasis on winning a cup competition next season to appease supporters desperate to win a trophy.
He told The Sun: "Arsenal have neither overachieved nor underachieved. I am certainly not saying it has been a great season, far from it, as there have been some real low points along the way.
"Without doubt, I would swap a trophy for fourth place any day of the week, whatever Wenger may have previously said. Eight years and counting for a piece of silverware is simply not good enough.
"This team certainly needs improving in more than just a couple of areas. Arsenal need another goalkeeper, two centre-halves and a top-quality central midfielder. There also needs to be more strength in depth."
Arsenal finished a single point ahead of Spurs in fourth, thanks to Laurent Koscielny's winning goal at Newcastle United on Sunday.
