Arsene Wenger: 'Olivier Giroud injury does not look very good'

Arsene Wenger admits that "it doesn't look very good" for Olivier Giroud after suffering a suspected hamstring injury in Arsenal's 1-0 EFL Cup win over West Ham United.

Arsene Wenger has claimed that Olivier Giroud's suspected hamstring injury "doesn't look very good" and suggested that the striker may face a spell on the sidelines.

The French striker limped off the Emirates Stadium pitch after pulling up with just 13 minutes remaining in Tuesday night's EFL Cup quarter-final meeting with West Ham United.

Giroud, who has struggled for game time this season, appeared visibly upset and had to be replaced by Reiss Nelson as the Gunners ran out 1-0 winners over the Hammers.

Up next for Arsenal is Friday night's Premier League meeting with Liverpool, and Wenger admitted that the 31-year-old is likely to be absent for the encounter.

"It's a positive night but we lost Olivier Giroud," the Gunners boss told reporters after the match.

"It doesn't look very good for him. I think he's out of Friday night. What is worrying is when you start to lose players. You can't afford to lose another one."

Giroud has started just 10 games in all competitions for Arsenal this season.
