Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is reportedly considering allowing Emile Smith Rowe to leave the Emirates this summer in order to make room for Leicester City's James Maddison.

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Leicester City's James Maddison this summer, with Emile Smith Rowe a possible departure from the Emirates in order to make room.

The 22-year-old has failed to start a match for Mikel Arteta's men this season - not helped by a serious groin injury the midfielder suffered in September - however the three-time England international has been available for selection since February.

Maddison has been an important part of a Foxes side fighting desperately for their Premier League lives, with Dean Smith's charges needing a win on the final day against West Ham United and other results to go their way in order to survive.

According to The Mirror, Arsenal boss Arteta is considering allowing Smith Rowe to leave North London as a way to facilitate the arrival of Maddison from a club who could be plying their trade in the Championship next season.

The report suggests that the 26-year-old is likely to be available if Leicester were to drop into the second tier for the first time since 2014, allowing the Gunners to negotiate a deal with the East Midlands club.

Smith Rowe has fallen behind Martin Odegaard and Fabio Vieira in Arsenal's attacking-midfield pecking order, however the former Huddersfield Town loanee could make his 12th Premier League appearance of the term when Wolverhampton Wanderers visit the Emirates on Sunday.
