Kevin Campbell: Arsenal need "marquee signings"

Ex-Arseanl striker Kevin Campbell calls for the Gunners to make a number of big-name signings in the January transfer window.

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has called for Arsene Wenger to make a number of "marquee signings" in the January transfer window.

Campbell played for the Gunners from 1988 to 1995, and believes that his old side are currently lacking sufficient quality in the midfield area.

He told talkSPORT: "Arsenal have not underachieved. They've done pretty well with what they've got. OK, they've only won one trophy over the last few years, but you have to have a look at the strength of the other teams.

"Arsenal have been lacking midfield players for a long time, but they've had to balance the books and work within a budget. To go and get the best players, you have to pay the best wages.

"Arsenal haven't been in the position, until now, to do that. I would like to see Arsene Wenger go out in January and make a couple of marquee signings."

Wenger's side host Manchester United after the international break on November 22.
