Newcastle United could reportedly face competition from Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta.
The 24-year-old impressed for the Ligue 1 outfit during the 2021-22 campaign, scoring 11 goals and registering seven assists in 44 appearances across all competitions.
Paqueta has since been linked with a move away from Lyon, with Newcastle allegedly lining up a club-record £50m bid for the Brazil international.
However, football.london, via Chronicle Live, claims that Spurs have been closely monitoring the midfielder and they will consider making an offer this summer.
The report adds that Paqueta is open to leaving Lyon but the French side still value him at around €80m (£68m), the same fee which Newcastle were quoted in January.
Paqueta, who has also been linked with Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain, has three years remaining on his contract at the Groupama Stadium.
The last time Newcastle conducted business with Lyon was in January when they recruited Bruno Guimaraes, while Tottenham's most recent dealings with Les Gones saw them sign Tanguy Ndombele in 2019, before loaning him back to the club in January.
