Tim Sherwood: 'I want control of all transfers at Aston Villa'

Tim Sherwood hints that he will only allow Aston Villa to appoint a director of football as long as he still has the final say when it comes to transfer dealings.

Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood has revealed that he intends to hold talks with owner Randy Lerner this summer over the appointment of a director of football.

Plans were said to be underway to bring someone in to oversee transfer operations while Paul Lambert was at the club, although since Sherwood took charge earlier this year those proposals have been pushed aside.

The former Tottenham Hotspur manager admits that he has no intention of filling the role prior to the end of the season, but it is something which the Villans are likely to look at in due course.

"It would make no sense now to interrupt things and bring someone in," he is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail. "It's something that might be revisited – maybe not – in the summer.

"I'd be welcome talking to Randy Lerner and to the people who make them decisions at the club regarding why they think it's necessary and what benefit it could have.

"But that's a conversation I must have and Randy will get my honest views on how I think it works, because obviously I've experienced it previously."

Sherwood has previously worked alongside technical director Franco Baldini during his time at White Hart Lane.
