Athletic Bilbao survive Celta Vigo fightback

Athletic Bilbao survive a 2-0 defeat to go through on away goals in their Copa del Rey last-16 tie against Celta Vigo.

Athletic Bilbao have fallen to a 2-0 defeat in their Copa del Rey last-16 tie against Celta Vigo, but have progressed to the quarter-finals on away goals.

The Lions had won last week's first leg 4-2 with the tie finishing in a 4-4 aggregate scoreline, meaning that their superior goal haul away from home has seen them advance.

Following a goalless first half, the visitors took the lead three minutes after the break when Xabier Etxeita touched the ball into his own net.

Almeria were then awarded a penalty on the hour mark when Charles fouled Mikel Rico inside the box.

Fabian Orellana took the spot kick and made no mistake with a low shot into the corner.

The visitors pushed for a third goal that would have sent them through, but it never arrived as Bilbao nervously held on to reach the next round.
