Thiago Alcantara returns to Bayern Munich training

Thiago Alcantara returns to training with Bayern Munich following a lengthy spell on the sidelines having suffered medial ligament damage last season.

Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara has returned to training following six months on the sidelines.

The Spaniard, who made 25 appearances for Bayern last season upon joining from Barcelona, made his last appearance for the Bundesliga champions in the 3-3 draw against Hoffenheim in March.

Thiago has struggled to overcome a medial ligament problem and missed this summer's World Cup as a result, although his return to training is a huge boost for a Bayern side who have experienced an injury crisis of late.

Holger Badstuber, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Javi Martinez and Rafinha are all expected to miss tonight's Champions League group-stage clash with Manchester City, while Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery are also major doubts.
