Preview: Augsburg vs. Bayern Munich - predictions, team news, line-ups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Bundesliga clash between Augsburg and Bayern Munich, including predictions, team news and possible line-ups.

Bayern Munich will be keen to right the wrongs of their 2-1 defeat to Hoffenheim before the international break when they visit Augsburg on Saturday.

They face an opponent in poor form, with Augsburg on the end of a 5-1 hammering against Borussia Monchengladbach last time out as they struggle for points in the Bundesliga.

Match Preview

Bayern lost their lead at the top of the table as they slipped to defeat against a struggling Hoffenheim side that picked up just their second win of the season.

Monchengladbach now sit atop the Bundesliga standings, with unbeaten Wolfsburg a point behind them and a point ahead of the reigning champions in third.

Robert Lewandowski's 73rd-minute equaliser in that game was swiftly cancelled out as Sargis Adamyan scored his second of the match just six minutes later to settle the contest.

It was Bayern's first league defeat of the season and ended a four-game winning run across all competitions in which they scored a whopping 17 goals.

Just four days earlier they had humbled Tottenham Hotspur by a staggering 7-2 scoreline but were brought crashing down to earth themselves.

Augsburg have yet to keep a clean sheet, however, and have conceded at least three in four of their seven Bundesliga games so far this term.

They have also won just once and are a mere point clear of the relegation zone, ahead of Fortuna Dusseldorf, Union Berlin, Koln and Paderborn.

Team News

Bayern head coach Niko Kovac is boosted by the return of a number of first-team players to training.

Leon Goretzka is back with the group following surgery on a thigh problem and David Alaba is also back training after suffering a fractured rib. Additionally, Mickael Cuisance played for France's Under-20 side and is fit once more.

It may be too early still for either Goretzka or Alaba to feature just yet, but their returns are imminent and provide a significant boost to the club.

Young striker Jann-Fiete Arp is the only other major injury concern facing the reigning Bundesliga champions.

Augsburg are without Marek Suchy, Carlos Gruezo, Felix Gotze, Marco Richter and Noah Sarenren Bazee due to injury.

Augsburg possible starting lineup:
Koubek; Lichtsteiner, Jedvaj, Uduokhai, Max; Hahn, Moravek, Khedira, Vargas; Gregoritsch, Niederlechner

Bayern Munich possible starting lineup:
Neuer; Pavard, Sule, Boateng, Hernandez; Kimmich, Thiago; Coman, Coutinho, Gnabry; Lewandowski

We say: Augsburg 0-3 Bayern Munich

Augsburg have conceded eight goals in their last two games and we expect Bayern to be out to prove a point following their defeat against Hoffenheim. Don't bet against a big win for the reigning champions against a side yet to keep a clean sheet this term.
