Jerome Boateng won't commit to boycott of 2018 World Cup in Russia

Bayern Munich and Germany defender Jerome Boateng says that he will not commit to a boycott of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Bayern Munich and Germany defender Jerome Boateng has refused to commit to a boycott of the 2018 World Cup in Russia following claims of racism in the country.

The issue came to light this week when Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure was allegedly subjected to monkey chants from CSKA Moscow fans during his side's 2-1 win in Russia.

Following the incident, calls have been made for black players to boycott the global tournament due to be held in the country in five years' time.

"I think it's very sad it happened again," BBC Sport quotes Boateng as saying. "It was in Russia so I understand his reaction and yes we must look to it because it's not the way.

"We will see there's plenty of time to 2018 but yeah we must look for that. We are here to play football and people in the stadium to enjoy the game and not for this. I can't say now [about a boycott] but we will see how it is in 2018."

UEFA have opened disciplinary proceedings against CSKA following the incident.
