Arsene Wenger tips "intelligent" Thierry Henry to become a managerial success after confirming that the Frenchman is interested in taking charge of Bordeaux.

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that rookie boss Thierry Henry has shown an interest in the Bordeaux job.

Henry, who played under Wenger for more than eight years in North London, recently quit his punditry position to focus on management.

The 41-year-old also has experience of working alongside Roberto Martinez with the Belgium national side, helping the Red Devils to a third-place finish at the World Cup before stepping down.

Asked about Henry's rumoured interest in the Bordeaux position, Wenger told Corse Martin: "Yes, he wants to do it, he is intelligent and he has the qualities.

"The existential question that we always ask ourselves is whether we are ready to sacrifice our life for the coaching profession. Being passionate is selfish work.

"When you are passionate, you steal your time from those whom you love and to whom you could have given much more."

Bordeaux suspended Gus Poyet last week after he criticised the club's owners for selling striker Gaetan Laborde to rivals Montpellier without his permission.
