Brazil midfielder Fernandinho has called on his teammates to stifle Colombia's James Rodriguez during Friday's World Cup quarter-final between the nations.

Rodriguez has been one of the standout performers at the tournament so far, with five goals putting him at the top of the Golden Boot standings.

While the 22-year-old remains Colombia's most potent attacking threat, Fernandinho is hoping that the hosts can mark him out of the game in Fortaleza.

"In this World Cup he is showing everyone that the money Monaco paid for him was well invested," he told FIFA.com. "The less space he gets against us, the better it will be for Brazil."

Fernandinho has scored one goal in two games for Brazil during the World Cup.
