Conference Premier roundup: Barnet go nine points clear

Sports Mole rounds up Saturday's action in the Conference Premier as Barnet move nine points clear at the top with a 2-1 win over Torquay United.

Barnet have strengthened their position at the top of the Conference Premier table by recording a 2-1 victory away at Torquay United.

Both teams had a man sent off during an action-packed first half that saw Barnet go 2-0 ahead through Mauro Vilhete and John Akinde.

Although Courtney Richards struck late on, the Bees held on to move nine points clear of second place.

Bristol Rovers are the nearest contenders to Barnet despite only securing a 0-0 draw away at Welling United.

A late goal from Paul Turnbull helped Macclesfield Town move up to fourth spot after they edged past Woking at Moss Rose.

An equaliser from Tom Marshall resulted in Altrincham gaining a 1-1 draw away at Forest Green Rovers, which moves them nine points clear of the relegation zone.

The other game of depleted fixture list because of the FA Cup second round fixtures saw Alfreton Town prevail over Nuneaton Town in a crucial game at the bottom end of the standings.
