Preview: Bristol Rovers vs. Barrow - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League Two clash between Bristol Rovers and Barrow, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Having lost just once in their previous 12 League Two encounters, Bristol Rovers will be looking to continue their fine run of form when they welcome Barrow to the Memorial Stadium on Tuesday.

The visitors, on the other hand, have won just once in their last eight league matches, leaving them perilously close to the relegation zone.

Having claimed three consecutive victories by an aggregate 8-0 scoreline, Bristol Rovers entered Saturday's home contest with Exeter City in a buoyant mood.

Luca Hoole opened the scoring for the Gas in the 10th minute, but a Jevani Brown equaliser 14 minutes later proved enough to end Bristol Rovers' winning run.

Although unable to pick up the three points at the weekend, Joey Barton will be satisfied that his team managed to extend their unbeaten run to five matches.

Another home fixture awaits on Tuesday, which will please the Gas, who have collected 14 points from their last six league matches at the Memorial Ground - only Mansfield Town have picked up more points at home in that period in League Two.

Sitting four points adrift of the playoff places, Bristol Rovers will need to continue their impressive home form if they are to finish inside the top seven.

As for the visitors, they enter the midweek contest in the midst of a four-game winless run, although three of those encounters did finish level.

In their last two outings, Barrow have played out consecutive goalless draws, and they travel to the Memorial Ground in 20th position.

Sitting just two points above the drop zone, the Bluebirds's are at risk of seeing their two-season stay in League Two come to an end.

Mark Cooper will be looking for more consistency from his side on their travels, with Barrow's last four away games yielding two wins and two defeats.

If they are to beat the drop then Tuesday's visitors need to improve in the final third, as the Bluebirds have scored more than once in just one of their previous 12 league matches.

Team News

Barrow manager Mark Cooper applauds the fans at full time on January 8, 2022© Reuters

Injury has prevented January signing Jon Nolan from making his Bristol Rovers debut, but that moment could be nearing closer after the 29-year-old featured in Saturday's matchday squad.

Nick Anderton could come into the starting lineup after returning to the squad on Saturday, while Elliot Anderson shook off a knock to feature in the weekend draw.

The home side's main goal threat will come from Aaron Collins, who will be looking to add to the eight league goals that he has scored this season.

As for Barrow, there are doubts over the availability of Connor Brown, who missed Saturday's encounter against Harrogate after picking up a knock.

Josh Gordon will retain his place in the starting lineup after returning from an injury layoff to start at the weekend.

In fact, following the goalless draw on Saturday, Cooper is expected to name an unchanged lineup for the midweek contest.

Bristol Rovers possible starting lineup:
Belshaw; Hoole, Taylor, Connolly, Anderton; E. Anderson, Coutts; H. Anderson, Evans, Nicholson; Collins

Barrow possible starting lineup:
Farman; Jones, Canavan, Brough; Hutton, Banks, White, Driscoll-Glennon; Gotts, Rooney; Gordon

SM words green background

We say: Bristol Rovers 2-1 Barrow

The reverse fixture between the two sides finished level, but Bristol Rovers have come on leaps and bounds since the 1-1 draw in August, and we think the Gas will have too much quality for Barrow as the hosts look to close in on the top seven.
