Malky Mackay: 'Off-field problems could hurt Cardiff City squad'

Malky Mackay admits that his off-field problems with owner Vincent Tan could hurt Cardiff City's hopes of staying in the Premier League.

Malky Mackay has admitted that the recent off-field disputes at Cardiff City could hurt the club in their battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Cardiff owner Vincent Tan had threatened Mackay with the sack after the two disagreed over the club's transfer policy before reportedly telling the Scot that he would remain in charge for the foreseeable future.

When asked if he thought the arguments could make it harder for the team to stay in the Premier League, Mackay told reporters: "Yes, absolutely. You can't have your dirty linen washed in public every week of the year without it affecting the club.

"I'm not saying it immediately affects the players because that's my job to make sure I protect them."

Cardiff are currently 15th, four points above the relegation zone.
