A report claims that Chelsea have failed in their attempt to appoint former RB Leipzig boss Ralf Rangnick as their manager on a temporary basis.

Ralf Rangnick has reportedly declined the opportunity to take over as Chelsea's interim manager following the sacking of Frank Lampard.

Chelsea parted company with Lampard on Monday just 18 months into the club legend's tenure after a poor run of results.

Former Paris Saint-Germain boss Thomas Tuchel is widely considered to be the favourite to succeed Lampard, though an agreement is not yet in place.

According to Sky Sports reporter Alan Myers, Chelsea approached Rangnick to fill in on a temporary basis while they finalise their search for a permanent replacement.

However, the 62-year-old, who most recently spent time in charge of RB Leipzig in 2018-19, is said to have rejected the offer.

Lampard departs Stamford Bridge with a record of 1.67 points per game - the fourth lowest of any permanent Blues boss in the Premier League era.
