Chelsea report racist Twitter posts aimed at John Obi Mikel to the police.

Chelsea have revealed that they have reported racial abuse aimed at John Obi Mikel on Twitter to the police.

The Nigerian midfielder was the subject of racial slurs from several Twitter users after his mistake cost the Blues victory against Juventus in midweek.

Mikel has removed his account from the social networking site following the offensive posts, which Chelsea have described as "disgusting".

The Telegraph quoted a Chelsea statement as saying: "We've been made aware of racist tweets targeted at Mikel which are totally unacceptable, disgusting and abhorrent.

"We've informed the police and support taking the strongest possible action."

The incident preceded another case of racially-motivated abuse after several Tottenham Hotspur players were subject to racist chants by visiting Lazio fans at White Hart Lane on Thursday.
