Newcastle United reportedly reach an agreement with Bruno Guimaraes over a new five-year contract which will include a release clause worth in the region of £100m.

Newcastle United have reportedly reached an agreement with midfielder Bruno Guimaraes over a new five-year contract.

The 25-year-old has established himself as an integral first-team player under manager Eddie Howe since joining the Magpies from Lyon for around £40m in January 2022.

Guimaraes contributed with four goals and five assists in 32 Premier League appearances for Newcastle last season, helping the club secure a top-four finish and qualify for the Champions League.

The Brazil international, who has started all six matches for Newcastle in all competitions so far this season, still has three years remaining on his current deal at St James' Park.

However, it is understood that the Magpies are keen to reward Guimaraes for his impact at the club and fend off interest from other clubs who are allegedly interested in the midfielder.

Both Chelsea and Manchester City allegedly made enquiries for Guimaraes during the summer transfer window, while Liverpool are said to have failed with a £100m offer.

Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona have also been credited with an interest in Newcastle's No.39, but it seems that he has no immediate desire to seek pastures new.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Guimaraes has agreed to extend his contract with Newcastle until the summer of 2028.

Romano adds that the midfielder's new deal will include a release clause worth in the region of £100m.

Earlier this summer, Guimaraes insisted that he is happy to stay at Newcastle and commit his future to the club by signing a new contract.

Discussing his contract situation in July during an interview with ChronicleLive, the Brazilian said: "I want to stay. How do you say it, it's ongoing. There is no news (in terms of an update). I want to stay, but the doubt is ongoing. So, let's see".

Magpies boss Howe has also reiterated Guimaraes's happiness at the club and believes that he feels at "home" in the North East, adding: "I don't think Bruno wants to leave. I feel protected enough – but the most important person in all of this is Bruno.

"I think Bruno sees this season as a huge opportunity for him to play on the best stage that you can, and to try to help Newcastle grow.

"I think that is the most important thing, not necessarily if a club comes in. It's where the player feels his home is. I think he feels his home is Newcastle.

"You can never tell what is going to happen in football. I can't sit here and say clubs won't be interested in Bruno because for me he is an outstanding player. But I see a player that is very committed to this football club."

Guimaraes is expected to start for Newcastle when they travel to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United in the Premier League on Sunday.
