Michael Essien to leave Chelsea in January?

Agent Fabian Piveteau reveals that midfielder Michael Essien could leave Chelsea during the January transfer window.

Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien could leave Stamford Bridge during the January transfer window, according to his agent.

Essien has played just six times for the Blues this season, and agent Fabian Piveteau has revealed that several European sides are keen on signing the 31-year-old next month.

Piveteau told French radio station RMC: "Essien could leave Chelsea this winter. Several major European clubs playing in the Champions League were informed and the situation should settle down within the next 10 days.

"You should know that Michael was not on the list of players who can play in the Champions League with Chelsea, so he is free to play in the competition with another club."

Essien has scored 25 goals in 249 appearances since joining Chelsea in 2005.
