Jose Mourinho: 'No plans to spend in January'

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho sees no reason to make January signings as he feels that there is little improvement possible from their first half of the season.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has insisted that he has no reason to make signings in January.

The Blues are traditionally among the biggest spenders in the winter window, having parted with £85m for Fernando Torres and David Luiz in 2011, and £35m for Nemanja Matic and Mohamed Salah last year.

However, Mourinho does not see how he can improve a squad which has lost just once in 23 matches this season, and is prepared to rotate over Christmas as he tries to manage a four-competition workload.

"We cannot be better than first in the League, top of our Champions League group and in the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup," he told reporters.

"I don't think any one player will play all these six matches," he added. "The ones who play all matches will have to go to five, but I have to give them one rest."

Chelsea have been linked with Borussia Dortmund's Marco Reus and Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi.
