Mark Schwarzer: 'Chelsea should keep John Terry'

Former Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer believes that the club should do everything in their power to keep hold of John Terry.

Mark Schwarzer believes that former Chelsea teammate John Terry is still one of the best defenders in England.

The Blues captain is waiting for the West Londoners to activate a one-year extension to his contract, which is set to expire at the end of the season.

Schwarzer believes that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho should do all that he can to keep the 34-year-old at Stamford Bridge.

"He's a massive figure at Chelsea," Schwarzer told talkSPORT. "When you look at the Capital One Cup final, he scored the opening goal, and then late in the game when it was 2-0, he made an unbelievable challenge to prevent an almost certain goalscoring opportunity.

"When you look at him week to week he has had a major influence on most games. He's definitely still one of the best defenders England has, if not the best."

Schwarzer left Chelsea for Leicester City in January.
