Preview: Coventry City vs. Burnley - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship clash between Coventry City and Burnley, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Coventry City will be looking to kickstart their season with a strong showing against Vincent Kompany's Burnley on Saturday.

The Sky Blues battled to a goalless draw with Bristol City on Tuesday night, and will be hoping for something similar against a Clarets side on a nine-game unbeaten run.

Coventry have had an uneven start to a disrupted league campaign, with just one win in their opening nine games.

Saturday will be only The Sky Blues' third home game due to the pitch issues at the start of the season, but their only win so far came at the CBS Arena against Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Viktor Gyokeres scored the only goal of that game, and he leads his side's goalscoring charts alongside his strike partner Matt Godden with three apiece.

However, neither could break through Bristol City's resistance on Tuesday night, which was Coventry's fourth draw this season.

They did snap the Robins' streak of scoring in every game this season and have been defensively solid for the majority of the campaign, especially on their recent four-game unbeaten run where they have conceded just two times.

Burnley will be disappointed to have thrown away another lead on Wednesday, when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Stoke City.

Right back Connor Roberts scored the Clarets goal in that game, but was beaten in the air by Harry Clarke for The Potters' equaliser.

Kompany's side have seen a lot of the ball in every game they have played this season, averaging 66% possession in the league, but cannot seem to make their pressure count.

The draw on Wednesday was the fifth time Burnley have been pegged back from winning positions and gone on to draw the game.

Despite that, they are unbeaten in nine games having not lost since the narrow defeat at Watford on August 12, and a win on Saturday would be their fifth in that run.

Team News

Coventry City manager Mark Robbins on August 27, 2022© Reuters

Mark Robins has almost a full contingent to select from, but is still without the suspended Gustavo Hamer, who is in the middle of a four-game ban.

Callum O'Hare, who was the subject of much interest from Burnley in the summer, will be hoping to feature in some capacity as he edges closer to full fitness, as will Liam Kelly.

However, Robins only made one change throughout the game on Tuesday and could be in favour of keeping his team the way it is.

Burnley are still missing Darko Churlinov, Kevin Long and Ashley Westwood but do not have any new injury concerns, meaning any changes would be tactical.

Ian Maatsen could come in at left-back to replace Vitinho, and Manuel Benson could drop back out of the starting 11 in place of Anass Zaroury.

Jordan Beyer has impressed since his arrival at the club and should keep his place in defence over Charlie Taylor.

Coventry City possible starting lineup:
Wilson; Panzo, McFadzean, Doyle; Dabo, Palmer, Allen, Sheaf, Bidwell; Godden, Gyokeres

Burnley possible starting lineup:
Muric, Maatsen, Beyer, Harwood-Bellis, Roberts; Cullen, Cork; Tella, Brownhill, Zaroury; Rodriguez
