Preview: Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Borussia Monchengladbach - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Bundesliga clash between Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Monchengladbach, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Eintracht Frankfurt will be aiming to end a winless run of six league games when they host Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga on Saturday evening.

The visitors, meanwhile, have only won once on the road so far during Daniel Farke's debut campaign in charge of the club.

Indeed, Frankfurt's tally of three points from their last six matches is the lowest across the entire Bundesliga, with Oliver Glasner's side's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League for the second successive season surely ended by a 3-1 defeat away to Bayer Leverkusen last weekend.

Goals from Amine Adli and Moussa Diaby provided the hosts with a comfortable two-goal cushion at half time, but Djibril Sow pulled one back late on as Frankfurt piled on in search of an equaliser. However, Sardar Azmoun's last-gasp strike ensured that all three points would be remaining in Leverkusen, who leapfrogged their opponents into sixth spot in the process.

Of course, Frankfurt's season is not over just yet, especially with a DFB-Pokal semi-final tie away to struggling Stuttgart to look forward to in a few weeks' time. Should Glasner secure the club's second major trophy in two seasons after lifting the Europa League last May, his legacy as a Die Adler legend would be secured regardless of where they finish in the league table.

That is not to say that they will be giving up throughout their remaining seven league games, especially with European qualification - whether the Champions League, or more realistically the Europa League or Europa Conference League - still very much up for grabs via a league finish. Returning to winning ways against Gladbach on Saturday would clearly do wonders for their spirits ahead of their quest to win a second DFB-Pokal in five seasons.

Gladbach, meanwhile, clearly have far less to play for than their forthcoming opponents, even if they can move three points behind Glasner's side should they be able to find their second away league win of the campaign.

Die Fohlen ended a five-match winless streak themselves by dispatching Wolfsburg 2-0 at Borussia-Park on Sunday, with goals from Nathan Ngoumou and Marcus Thuram either side of half time keeping Farke's side's hopes of finishing the season inside the top half of the table alive by moving them four points behind the Wolves in ninth place.

In order to chase Niko Kovac's side down, though, Gladbach will surely require turning their dismal away form around across the coming weeks, but that seems reasonably improbable given that they will face Frankfurt, Borussia Dortmund and Leverkusen either side of two trips to Stuttgart in the space of a week.

After all, only VfL Bochum and Hertha Berlin have recorded fewer points than Farke's side on the road in the Bundesliga this season, making their chances of claiming a positive result at Deutsch-Bank Park this weekend appear to be fairly slim.

Team News

Frankfurt will be without Jesper Lindstrom (ankle), Philipp Max (thigh) and Hrvoje Smolcic (knee), while Mario Gotze is suspended after receiving his fifth booking of the season last time out.

Evan Ndicka and Almamy Toure are major doubts due to muscle strains, meaning that Tuta and Christopher Lenz may be called upon down the left-hand side of the hosts' defensive unit.

Daichi Kamada will expect to replace Gotze between the lines having only appeared as a substitute in recent weeks, but it may be too soon for Eric Dina Ebimbe to make his first start since January after making his comeback from a syndemostic tear against Leverkusen.

Gladbach, meanwhile, will travel without Tony Jantschkle and Yvandro Borges Sanches due to knee and ankle issues respectively, but otherwise Farke appears to have a fully-fit squad at his disposal.

Manu Kone will almost certainly return to the visitors' engine room after missing the victory against Wolfsburg through suspension, while Jonas Hofmann could replace Ngoumou on the right flank despite the 23-year-old opening the scoring last time out.

Eintracht Frankfurt possible starting lineup:
Trapp ; Jakic, Hasebe, Tuta; Buta, Rode, Sow, Lenz; Borre, Kamada; Kolo Muani

Borussia Monchengladbach possible starting lineup:
Omlin; Scally, Itakura, Elvedi, Bensebaini; Kramer, Kone; Hofmann, Neuhaus, Stindl; Thuram

We say: Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1 Borussia Monchengladbach

Given Gladbach's dreadful away form this season, Frankfurt could hardly have asked for an easier home match in order to return to winning ways in the Bundesliga.

Glasner will be keen to build some momentum ahead of their winnable cup semi-final tie away to Stuttgart in early May, as he seeks to win a second trophy in only his second season at the club.
