Wayne Rooney back in contention for Everton

Forward Wayne Rooney is back in contention for Everton after recovering from illness in time for the club's Premier League trip to Bournemouth.

Everton boss Sam Allardyce has revealed that Wayne Rooney is available for the club's Premier League clash with Bournemouth.

Rooney has been absent from the Toffees' last two fixtures due to the flu, and Everton have failed to hit the back of the net in goalless draws with Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion.

Allardyce has admitted that the return of Rooney is a boost, and the former England boss is hopeful that the forward can help improve his side's fortunes in front of goal.

The 63-year-old told the club's official website: "Wayne is back from illness. He has been stuck in bed for three days.

"Any quality player who gets fit and returns is a big boost. The only thing we have done recently is transformed the team into a better defensive unit, and that has given us a platform. But I am still a little concerned about the amount of goals we are capable of scoring."

Rooney has scored a total of 11 goals from 24 appearances in all competitions this season.
