David Moyes believes that Everton's performance against Chelsea warranted at least a point.

Everton manager David Moyes has insisted that his side deserved at least a share of the spoils from their home encounter with Chelsea this afternoon.

The Toffees took the lead with just over one minute on the clock, but eventually slumped to a 2-1 defeat courtesy of a brace from veteran Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard.

However, having seen his side strike the woodwork on three separate occasions, Moyes feels that the result was harsh on his players.

"I think we are a little unlucky not to get at least a draw today. The players could not have done any more. They gave everything they could and we played very well, but we came up a little short at the end," he told BBC Sport.

"We tried to score throughout the game and we made it difficult for Chelsea. Our players put in a great shift, and all teams at this time of the season are suffering from injuries and suspensions.

"But that shouldn't take anything away from how good we were today. We went very close to beating the European champions."

The defeat has left Everton sixth in the Premier League table.
