Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford says that his mistake which led to Christian Benteke scoring for Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon was "disgusting".

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has revealed that he was 'disgusted' after his mistake contributed to a Crystal Palace goal on Saturday afternoon.

While Everton eventually prevailed by a 3-1 scoreline, Pickford had allowed Palace to equalise by letting a tame Christian Benteke shot go into the near corner.

However, despite acknowledging his glaring error, the England international was proud of his response after helping the Toffees to another win in the top flight.

Speaking to BT Sport, Pickford said: "Yeah, disgusting. It was an unfortunate first goal, I'm disappointed with myself. I think my studs got caught but I hold my hand up for that.

"It shows my character and my mentality because I could've crumbled but I reset and I never let anything affect me. I try to just do my job for the team, that's what it's about, football."

Everton now sit in seventh position in the standings, just five points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea.
