Preview: Queens Park Rangers vs. Leicester City - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship clash between Queens Park Rangers and Leicester City, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Leicester City square off against Queens Park Rangers in the Championship on Saturday afternoon looking to further strengthen their top spot in the standings.

Meanwhile, the home side are already six points adrift of safety having recorded five successive defeats.

When teams go on winning streaks in the Championship, the general consensus is that they will eventually lose their way and be brought back into the pack.

In the case of Leicester, no-one is anticipating anything else other than the Foxes wrapping up promotion in record time, with a 14-point gap having already been established over third place.

Enzo Maresca's team recorded their 12th league win in 13 outings in midweek as they earned a 1-0 victory over Sunderland at the King Power Stadium.

An early goal from James Justin proved to be the difference and Leicester have now recorded four successive clean sheets in the East Midlands.

Away from home, Leicester have scored at least two goals in each of their last five league encounters on their travels, highlighting the size of the task for a poor QPR team.

Queens Park Rangers (QPR) manager Gareth Ainsworth reacts after the match on August 19, 2023© Reuters

There have been times during Gareth Ainsworth's relatively-short reign at Loftus Road when he could count himself fortune to still be in a job.

That perception is at its strongest right now with QPR having lost five matches in a row and having prevailed in just one game in 11 outings.

A six-point gap separates them to 21st place at a time when they remain without a win at their London home since March.

With supporters very much angling for change, Ainsworth may have only one more chance to stay in a job, despite the level of opponents that they face at the weekend.

Team News

With Jimmy Dunne serving a suspension, QPR boss Ainsworth must decide whether to stick with a back five or revert to a four.

Sam Field may drop into the defence, bringing Andre Dozzell into central midfield and Paul Smyth potentially coming into the side on the right flank.

Albert Adomah is another option for that area of the pitch having made his first start of the season after the international break.

Maresca is likely to rotate some of his Leicester side, with the likes of Hamza Choudhury and Jamie Vardy in contention to feature at left-back and up front.

Although Marc Albrighton is also in contention, he may have to settle for a place among the replacements.

Queens Park Rangers possible starting lineup:
Begovic; Cannon, Kakay, Field, Clarke-Salter, Paal; Smyth, Dozzell, Colback, Chair; Dykes

Leicester City possible starting lineup:
Hermansen; Justin, Vestergaard, Faes, Choudhury; Casadei, Winks, Dewsbury-Hall; Fatawu, Vardy, Mavididi

We say: Queens Park Rangers 0-3 Leicester City

While Ainsworth has sometimes found a way to record a surprise win in the second tier with his QPR side, we do not anticipate that occurring here. Even if Leicester rotate, they should still have more than enough to cruise to three points.
