Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp: "We could not reach our level"

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp admits that his side 'could not reach their level' after losing 3-1 to Sevilla in the Europa League final on Wednesday night.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted that his team 'could not reach their level' in Wednesday's 3-1 defeat to Sevilla in the Europa League final.

Daniel Sturridge sent Liverpool into a 35th-minute lead in Basel, but Kevin Gameiro levelled for Sevilla, before Coke scored twice in the space of six minutes to secure a third straight crown for the Spanish outfit.

Gameiro scored 17 seconds into the second period in Switzerland and Klopp found it difficult to explain what happened to his team in the second 45 minutes.

"I was not happy with the start either. We did not concentrate at the start of the second half, but what happened then was the real problem. We were not compact and did not defend well," Klopp told BT Sport.

"That shows that we are not as good as we hoped. We have to carry on and use this experience and we can be stronger. I am sure we will be stronger, but tonight is disappointment and frustration.

"We had wonderful situations, but tonight not enough. We could not reach our level. It is now my job to help the boys... Sevilla were clever, but the goals were too easy. I am responsible for this performance as well."

There will now be no European football at Anfield next season.
