Luiz: 'Coutinho may leave Liverpool if they fail to qualify for Champions League'

Paris Saint-Germain defender David Luiz says that Philipp Coutinho may leave Liverpool next season if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Paris Saint-Germain defender David Luiz has warned Liverpool they could lose midfielder Philippe Coutinho should they fail to qualify for the Champions League next season.

The Reds finished in sixth place in the Premier League last term and missed out on a spot in Europe's elite competition, but they managed to retain the services of the 23-year-old.

However, Luiz has revealed that his Brazil teammate may not be convinced to stay at Anfield if the club fail to reach the Champions League again.

Luiz is quoted as saying by The Mirror: "Coutinho made the choice to stay at Liverpool without Champions League football this season. I don't think he will make that choice again.

"The best need to be playing with the best. Coutinho is the best midfield player in England right now. That is great for him, but when you play at that level the big clubs will notice you.

"If Liverpool don't qualify this season for the Champions League, I am sure he will be the most in demand player in Europe next summer."

Coutinho joined Liverpool in 2013 from Inter Milan.
