Paris Saint-Germain are allegedly leading the race to secure a deal for a key Liverpool player during the summer transfer window.

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly contemplating whether to make an approach for Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.

Despite his legendary status at Anfield, the Egypt international has been allowed to enter the final 12 months of his contract.

That has not stopped the 32-year-old starring under Arne Slot during the early weeks of the season, contributing five goals and five assists in the Premier League and Champions League.

Liverpool sit at the top of the domestic standings, while they have also posted victories in their opening two fixtures on the continent.

Nevertheless, there have been conflicting reports over the progress, if any, that has been made behind the scenes regarding a fresh deal being penned.

PSG ahead of Saudi clubs?

Given the finances on offers in the Saudi Pro League, the perception has been that one of the top clubs from that division will sign the versatile attacker at the end of the season.

Offers in excess of £100m have previously been rebuffed by the Merseyside giants, club officials prepared to take a risk that Salah will eventually sign a new contract.

However, according to The Sun, PSG are open to handing Salah a three-year contract in order to make the switch to Parc des Princes.

Key figures at the Ligue 1 giants are of the opinion that Salah can be the marquee player that they are lacking after the departure of Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid.

Furthermore, it is claimed that Salah has less interest in signing for a Saudi Pro League club at this stage of his career than may have been perceived in the past.

Salah would seemingly prefer to continuing competing at the highest level, with the assumption being is in one of European football's top leagues.

Is Salah what PSG need?

Having scored 20 goals form their opening six matches in Ligue 1, PSG do not necessarily need a player like Salah to continue to win league titles.

The hope would be that Salah could be a difference maker in the Champions League, with Luis Enrique's side having struggled in this season's competition thus far.

On the back of a fortunate 1-0 triumph over Girona on matchday one, PSG succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Arsenal earlier this week.
